…how does the module confirm loss of signal if there’s no signal to confirm the loss of the signal that they would need to confirm the loss…

Fantastic to see this.
I jokingly said to my wife that they should, with 5s left before LOS, have said ‘Uhh, Houston, oh my god! there’s an enormous crab-like octop-‘

Couldn’t we have just sent up a relay sat in advance to avoid the loss of signal period?

Artemis, you’re dark on the rock, mission is a go. You have 40 minutes to investigate a crash site

Alright, everybody start broadcasting 1960s radio signals.

Glad I got to hear about this from Toesniffer on spaceporn.

Hard to grasp the fact that they are completely on their own right now. It gets even crazier when you think about the command module pilots of the Apollo missions, now what they experiened was complete 100% solitude.

What’s the effect I’ve seen a few times in the broadcast where the whole moon appears to suddenly change shape & get darker? Some sort of camera filter changing?

Just like Apollo 13, alone and basically isolated from earth, no way to reach back except to wait

Listening to Dark Side of the Moon while I wait for Signal Acquisition. (I know, Far Side, but DSotM is a better album).

What if the crew came around the moon and the Earth was *gone*? 😳

I once went to see the Moon hanging in a Cathedral.
It was amazing.
No not the start of a drunken or drug brain ramble. 😂
It was an artists Installation. Created by enlarged photos of the actual Moon.
A perfect planet replica of the Moon it was enormous & hanging from the tall vaulted ceiling.
I was looking up, saying, how marvellous. That looking up & walking around I felt like an Astronaut.
( had not realised the person I went with had walked away.)
A young boy, maybe 4 or 5 years old enthralled as much as me. Excitedly began chatting to me about all things Moon & space flights & Astronauts.
It was delightful. Parents waited patiently until he told me everything.
I do hope that child gets their wish to become an Astronaut.
It was so lovely to share that moment of appreciation for the Art Installation & the inspiration of exploring space.

If you don’t hear back, that’s a confirm of loss of signal. What’s wrong with people here

It’s a little bittersweet they’re going to beat Apollo 13’s record.
I mean, I know it was bound to happen eventually, but the one thing 13’s crew was able to say despite everything that went wrong with that mission is that they managed to go father from Earth than anyone had ever gone before… and held that record for such a long time.
An excellent consolation prize for not getting to land on the moon.

They have entered the Radio Shadow of the Moon!
The only place in our solar system that Earth’s Radio signals are absent from Backgrqoynd Radio emissions. Where we can listen to the beginning of Time itself, how the very first stars ignited and photons began their journey.
Insanely valuable data is being harvested right now all antennas GO!
